Monikers is a game where the players need to get other players to guess what’s written on the card, without saying the contents. However, it’s played over several rounds and has a twist which adds all the fun.

Before play has begun, each player gets a handful of cards, the amount depends on the player count. From that, the select a few that they find amusing, funny or they think would be easy to describe.

Once done, all the selected cards are put in a pile, there should be roughly 30. And here is the key thing: these are the ONLY cards you use for the entire game.

In the first round the current player has 60 seconds to get their team members to guess as many cards as possible without saying the words on the card. For instance, if the word is potato then they may say “Another name for a spud is?“.

Once all the cards have been guessed then the second round starts. This round is exactly the same as the first with one key difference. You only get one word! So for the potato card the person may rely on the first rounds words and just say “spud!”

The final round consist of using the cards again, however, this time it is miming only!

Why I like it

This is an interesting game in the fact that you quite quickly create all these funny in-jokes for you and your friends over the course of the game. It is quite funny to watch these jokes evolve and just how people try get the concepts across, especially once you reach the third round.
